A cast of six dancers has been announced for the BBC’s first scripted dance series, School Dance.

The programme will be based on the popular British dance troupe of the same name.

The troupe has been performing since the 1950s and has sold over 60 million albums worldwide.

The new series will be written by the troupe’s artistic director, Joanna White.

The troupe will include a dancer who will be “an original member of the troupette”, according to a BBC statement.

The show is being produced by BBC Worldwide, who will release the first episode later this year.

School Dance has previously been filmed on location in England.
